What to Expect at Your Newborn Session

A lot of people are nervous before they step in front of the camera. When it’s your newborn baby who’s the star of the day, there can be a lot of emotions. I know that new parents have enough to worry about. I want the newborn session to feel comfortable from the get-go. That’s why I’m helping explain what you can expect at your newborn session.

WHERE ARE THE PHOTOS TAKEN?

When you arrive, you will be warmly welcomed to my North Spokane studio. A few years ago, I converted our detached garage into my dream studio customized with everything we need. The studio will be warmed to 80 degrees for the comfort of the baby. I do suggest that you dress a bit lighter as it will feel very warm for us.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

I like to say that I provide everything needed for the session, expect the baby. I have lots of beautiful wraps, headbands, and props to use during your newborn session. Once your baby is born I send a questionnaire that allows you to choose the poses you would like to incorporate into your session. I also ask questions that help choose which colors to use when styling the props/poses you chose. Day of, you just need to show up and I’ll have everything ready for you.

WHAT ABOUT PARENT/SIBLING PHOTOS?

Parent/sibling photos are included in all my sessions. I do ask that you wear light colored tops/dresses to go with my light and airy style. The photos taken go toward the total number of images that are included in the package you choose. I offer a variety of options in my questionnaire for you to choose from. For example: Siblings on Flokati, siblings on bed, and siblings backlit. See my images for example or look through some of my previous blogs.

HOW LONG IS THE SESSION?

I like to tell families to plan for 2-3 hours, but I average about 1-2 hours. The timing really depends on the baby and how deep of a sleep they are in. Sessions usually start with baby wrapped so that they can get into that deep sleep. I start each session with parent/sibling images so that dad can take older sibling out on a fun date while we finish the session with just baby. I then, do photos of baby wrapped in various props and at the end is when we usually do the naked images, if that is what you chose in your questionnaire.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THE FINAL IMAGES? AND DO I GET TO PICK THEM?

I send/post a sneak peek image from your session either the same day as your session or the next day. My turn around time is around 2 weeks from the session date to get the final gallery out to you. I can achieve this faster turn around time by me choosing the best images to include in the gallery. This is why I have set up the questionnaire process, so that you pick the poses you want meaning no matter what you are getting the images you are after. All the final galleries are sent to you via an online gallery where you can order high quality prints that are shipped directly to your door.

EVERY PART OF YOUR SESSION WITH ME IS COMPLETELY PREPARED FOR, AND THOUGHT-OUT IN ADVANCE SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY’S COMFORT.

It is such a gift and honor to welcome you into my beautiful studio.

I look forward to meeting you and your little one.
